Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) could not reach consensus on the draft of the new local government system. The meeting of the core committee will be held again today (Sunday), Business Recorder has learnt. The meeting was held under the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to discuss the situation emerged after the Supreme Court's verdict regarding the election of Local government system, sources said.
The meeting discussed the role of Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners and Local Government officers in the light of present circumstances, sources said. After the thorough discussion, the meting has approved some recommendations, which will be submitted to Chief Minister Sindh for consideration and necessary decision, sources said. The meeting also discussed the worsening law and order situation of the Karachi and non-completion of voter lists as well besides other issues related to local government election, sources said.
The meeting was attended among others by PPP, Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durani, Minister for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah, Minister for Prisons Ayaz Soomro, Minister for Archives Rafique Engineer, MQM's Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, Minister for Information Technology Raza Haroon, Minister for Health Dr Sagheer Ahmed and PML-F's Advisor to Chief Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh.
