Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday called for transparent probe to ascertain the causes of crash and on whose direction Bhoja Airlines was allowed to resume operations despite being defaulter of billions of rupees. Talking to reporters upon his arrival at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the Chief Minister said that a thorough probe should be conducted into the plane crash incident resulting in loss of 127 precious lives.
The reason behind the tragic incident, which claimed 127 lives, is yet to be ascertained; however, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said a judicial commission will be set up to probe the crash. "Why a private company, which was defaulter of billions of rupees was allowed to play with the lives of women, children and elderly people...the nation must want to know as to who are responsible for the great loss," Shahbaz said, adding that investigations should be conducted into the fatal crash as well as expose those who allowed the company to resume operations.
He said investigation was also necessary, as the private airline before resuming its operation had been closed for several years for being defaulter of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of billions of rupees. The Chief Minister further said that he had come to know that the private airline was also defaulter of a bank and pointed out that the loans were written off on political grounds, which was another blow to national economy.
Shahbaz termed the Friday incident as national tragedy and also expressed condolence with the victim families. He added that the Punjab government extended all the support to the federal government by sending rescue and elite force teams to participate in the relief operations soon after the incident. He said that all the concerned departments were activated on his direction immediately after the tragic incident. He further said that Punjab Houses in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been opened for the victim families to assist them.
