In order to save the lives of Thalassemia patients Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) Islamabad campus organised a three-day blood donation camp in collaboration with Burhani Bank Limited and Armed Forces Institution of Transfusion (AFIT).
Managing Director Pakistan Bait ul Mal, Zamurrad Khan, while inaugurating the camp, said that it is the moral and religious obligation of every Muslim to contribute in all possible ways to save the precious lives of his/her brothers and sisters, says a press release issued here on Saturday.
He said that donation of blood is one of the most pious and virtuous deeds to alleviate the suffering of those in pain, adding that Pakistan Bait ul Mal will soon establish its own blood bank that will cater to the blood requirements and provide blood free of cost to the poor people.
Students from SZABIST as well as other educational institutions including, NUST, FAST, International Islamic university, Punjab Commerce College, Bahria, Air and Allama Iqbal Open University donated their blood to the camp and collected 530 bottles of blood. Shabnam Tariq, mother of nine-year old Thalassemia patient Sumair Tariq said that she has lost her 19-year old daughter, who was also a Thalassemia patient, adding that expensive medical treatment for Thaassemia is hard to be born as only the blood transfusion requires 30000 a month.-PR
