The 50 years golden jubilee celebrations of "The Pakistan Society for Welfare of Mentally Retarded Children" entitled as Amin Maktab functioning in Lahore held a symposium on "Children and opportunities with intellectual impairment" was held in conjunction with University of Central Punjab Johar Town on Saturday.
The event was chaired by Justice Aamer Raza A. Khan (Retd), President Amin Maktab, while Shamshad Qureshi former programme officer of UNICEF, SEI Pervez, Nazia Bashir clinical psychologist PU, Syed Amir Jaffery, Dr Abdul Hameed, Dr Anjum, Dr Javeria Manan, Khawar Sultana also spoke on the occasion. A large number of students, parents, experts and disabled children attended the event. Syed Amir Jaffery, MD Ghazali Education Trust, said that their organisation is running 354 schools in rural areas and they are educating 44000 poor students.
Rudaba Hameed emphasised that government should ensure the providing of brail system, pick and drop services, independent living centre and bearers free buildings at school and college level to encourage the education among disabled. Dr Abdul Hameed said that we should channelize the institutions that are serving the disabled. The speakers also stressed the society to change the behaviour for disabled education and also ensure their bright future.
Justice Aamer Raza. A. Khan (Retd) in his concluding remarks said that Amin Maktab would establish a group to promote the inclusive education for disabled children and experts should cooperate in this regard. Later the flower bouquets were presented among all the speakers.
