Adjourning the hearing of a Rs 9 billion Bank of Punjab loan scam Wednesday, the Supreme Court issued directives to the counsel for the bank and the owner of Haris Steel Mills to ensure implementation of the Salvage Committee's recommendations in letter and in spirit by executing the sale deed in the favour of purchasers.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry also asked the Chief Secretary and top legal officer of Punjab to help facilitate medical treatment of the owner of Haris Steel Mills, Sheikh Haris Afzal. The Chief Justice remarked: "the proceedings in the case would be over immediately after the properties liable to outstanding amount are transferred to the Bank and the purchaser." The hearing was adjourned till May 17.
