Despite the government's claims of taking stringent measures to stop targeted killings, four more persons including an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were gunned down in separate incidents in different areas of the metropolis here on Monday.
According to police and rescue sources, an activist of MQM was shot dead near Rubi More, Baldia in the precincts of Saeedabad police station. The 45-year-old Rana Asif son of Ghulam Rasool came under armed attack in sector IX, Baldia near Rubi Moor, when he was on the way in his bike.
Resultantly, he received bullet wounds and succumbed to his injures on the way to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The attackers managed to flee. DSP Abdul Haq Bhutto said the victim, who was an active worker of MQM unit 112-B, Baldia sector, was targeted by armed riders. Following the incident, tension gripped the area where all shops and markets were closed. No case was registered till filing of this report.
A transporter was killed in Frontier Colony, Orangi Town in the limits of Pirabad police station. The victim, who was identified as Gulab Khan, 42, son of Shah Wali Khan, was resident of Sher Khan Abad Qasba Colony. Police said he was assaulted by two armed riders when he along with his son was on the way to home in a pick up, in Frontier Colony no 3 near Rahmania Clinic.
He received single bullet on his head and died on spot. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for legal formalities. Police said the victim, who used to run transport business, might have been murdered over personal ground. No case was registered till filing of this report.
In another incident, a businessman was targeted in Liaquatabad in the limits of Super Market police station. The victim, who was identified as Mukhtiar Qureshi, 50, son of Ibrahim Qureshi, was owner of a chicken shop. The body was shifted to ASH for medico legal formalities.
SHO Mumtaz said the victim was killed when he offered resistance during robbery bid. No case was registered till filing of this report. A young man was stabbed to death during a scuffle in Haji Jannat Gul Town in the precincts of Sohrab Goth police station. The victim Arif, 22 son of Haji Sehar Gul Khan indulged in a quarrel with his friend over some dispute. Resultantly, his friend pulled out the dagger and claimed Arif's life.
