Chairman Businessmen Group and former president Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Siraj Kassam Teli has said that they do not recognise Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) as its set-up is illegal. Replying to a question during press conference held to launch 9th My-Karachi Oasis of Harmony exhibition at KCCI auditorium, he said he has no difference with the leadership of FPCCI and Tariq Saeed but he has serious reservation about FPCCI set-up.
He said on business community issues with Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), finance ministry and other government organisation we are with Tariq Saeed and his group. He noted that during recent visit of Indian delegation to KCCI, members participated in FPCCI function and likewise Tariq Saeed and his team attended KCCI meeting. Clarifying differences on FPCCI, Siraj Kassam Teli said FPCCI set-up is not in accordance with the law.
He said KCCI has 18,000 members who elect its governing body whereas in FPCCI chambers elect representatives. He said there existed many fake chambers in the country and they have voting rights as well. Referring to 'My-Karachi' exhibition, he said Indian, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE are likely to participate in the exhibition.
My-Karachi, Oasis of Harmony 2012 scheduled to be held from 13-15 July at Karachi Expo Centre. Siraj Kassam Teli stated that KCCI's My-Karachi, Oasis of Harmony Exhibition is a successful venture to depict the image of Karachi as economic, financial and industrial hub and portray real perception of Pakistan abroad as peaceful and one of the fastest developing countries in the region. Subsequently, the state of affairs demands those citizens of Pakistan in general and the business and industrial community in particular to come forward to rebuild the true image of Karachi and Pakistan while accelerating the pace of industrial and commercial activities.
He said that KCCI has made praiseworthy and admirable efforts to portray the actual picture of Karachi as a peaceful city, having prudent people and a pragmatic business community. He said that in "My- Karachi, Oasis of Harmony" as usual, domestic as well as foreign business communities are participating to synchronise their trades. Their co-operation and support is an exceptional example of close liaison with the business & Industrial Community, he added. Indian pavilion would the special feature of 9th My-Karachi Exhibition being jointly organised by KCCI and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Acting President KCCI Younus Muhammad Bashir stated that the 9th sequel of KCCI's flagship International "My-Karachi, Oasis of Harmony Exhibition endorse the success of the regular event to promote commercial and industrial activities. He said that My-Karachi Exhibition had gained due recognition of national and international exhibitors for last 9 years. He said that prime objective to organize this regular event is to project and promote the true image of Pakistan as city of lights and promising land of opportunities with all its potentials and strengths in general and Karachi in particular. My-Karachi Exhibition truly represents Pakistan in terms of cultural cross section in a unique urban scenario and recognition of Karachi as diversified fastest growing city in the region.
He highlighted that Pakistan holds an important geo-strategic position and acts as a gateway to Central Asian Republics, the Middle East, Iran, India and China. Pakistan possesses all natural resources and potential to become developed economy. Karachi is the commercial, industrial and financial activities hub of Pakistan. KCCI is the largest Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Pakistan as well as the Sub-Continent. It also ranks amongst top ten chambers of the world in terms of its membership base. The KCCI has over 18,000 direct and 50,000 indirect members, covering the seven industrial zones of Karachi and represents the city of Karachi, which generates around 68 per cent revenue for Pakistan and the ports of Karachi handle 98 per cent of import/export consignment.
He said that KCCI has planned to organize an Indian pavilion with the collaboration of Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry. We have also invited exhibitors from Saarc, GCC and Asean countries. Indo-Pak relations are writing a new chapter of history and recent Indo-Pak exchanges of high level delegations asserts upon the dire need to increase the trade between two countries but also underscore the need to activate the Saarc block, he said. So far India and Indonesia has confirmed while confirmation from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran, China, Malaysia, UAE and other countries is process, he added.
Chairman, Karachi Exhibition KCCI, Ismail Surya said that this year we have reserved four halls of Karachi Expo Centre and have planned to exhibit products from all the diversified sectors of the economy and likewise we have invited organisations/ brands from textile, telecommunication, banking/financial, automobile, engineering, halal food, electronics, electrical, telecommunication, carpets, furniture, handicrafts, agricultural value-added sectors.
He said that we have also extended invitations to all the leading Chambers of Pakistan to invite their members to participate in My-Karachi Exhibition. Besides invitations have been sent to all foreign missions in Pakistan and likewise Pakistani missions abroad to disseminate information of My-Karachi Exhibition to interested exhibitors.
Special feature would be the Indian Pavilion in the My-Karachi Exhibition, besides we are organising International Pavilion having participation expectation from foreign companies of friendly countries particularly Afghanistan, Turkey, Iran, Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Germany, Switzerland, Romania and United Arab Emirates. He said that its our aim, this year, to ensure that over 700,000 visitors and businesspersons to visit My-Karachi Exhibition to shop in style and to develop business connections with local and foreign corporate entities which will ultimately depict real image, prestige and nobility of Karachi and Pakistan.
