Top international computer scientists and IT specialists have called for focusing research on innovative technologies to spur Pakistan's development in banking, industry and telecommunications. They made this observation while addressing the first international symposium organised by the Institute of Business and Technology-Biztek on Computing and Information Technologies at its Main Campus at Korangi Creek in co-operation with the Higher Education Commission and the Pakistan Science Foundation.
The two-day symposium, SCIT-2012, which concluded yesterday (Saturday), was aimed at creating a dialogue between senior scholars and students to promote the culture of scientific research in the country. Dr Mahmmod Hussain Shah from the UK provided an insight into e-banking and the research being done to make it as safe and simple as possible. Dr Nasrullah Memon from Denmark described the techniques of data mining. A number of other important technological developments and the methods to harness new technologies, including optic wireless communication were also discussed.
Many renowned scholars for various Pakistani universities presented their papers and chaired various technical sessions. They included Dr Madad Ali Shah, Dr S.M Sajid, Dr Mohammad Ehsan Sarwar, Dr Wajiha Shah, Dr Mohammad Ayub Yousuf Zai and Dr Arif Hussain.
The Rector of Biztek, Dr Mohammad Ali Siddiqui, Dean of Management Sciences, Dr Farooq-e-Azam Cheema, and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technologies and Chief Organiser, also addressed the symposium. Souvenirs and certificates were distributed to participants in the concluding session.-PR
