This refers to May 24 media report on the proceedings of the 'missing persons' case being taken up by a Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Overwhelmed by extreme frustration over the inaction, unwillingness of the government and security agencies, subservient to the so-called 'Establishment', to produce the missing persons, presumably, in the custody of these agencies and failure to provide satisfactory answers relative to their whereabouts, as demanded by the apex court, the Chief Justice warned the government to follow the Constitution before a state of emergency is declared or martial law is imposed in the country.
Sadly, there has been repeated blatant defiance of apex court's orders. Unfortunately, the apex court did not go beyond its pronouncements of possible retributions against these individuals. On a number of occasions, the Supreme Court had directed various government functionaries, such as federal secretaries, the DG FIA and his sundry subordinates, the NAB and law ministry prosecutors and scores of senior police officers of dire consequences of possible dismissal, suspension from service and even sending them to jail for non-compliance of its directives. Despite the fact that these individuals continued to defy the apex court by not following its orders, no action against them was ever taken and they were let off without due punishment by the apex court. Under such circumstances, one is not surprised at all, that the delinquent paid no heed to the orders of the judiciary.
In the perception of the general public, Pakistan is firmly in the hands of a "Zardari-Gilani-Kayani" troika, complementing each other, in pursuit of respective personal mandate and whose sole objective, is to see the continuation and perpetuation of the PPP-led government, until at least, each one of them completes, collectively or individually, his term of office in 2013.
In the meantime, rampant corruption, misgovernance, absence of writ of the government, mismanagement of the affairs of the State, ruination of national economy, targeted and sectarian killings, loot, arson, terrorism, lawlessness and anarchy, rule supreme.
