Chairman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan on Sunday announced to file a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court against National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza's ruling against sending reference to Election Commission for disqualification of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
The PTI chairman, who was addressing a huge public rally at historic Liaquat Bagh, said that Gilani's recent visit along with a 70-member entourage, will also be challenged in Supreme Court, which was done at the tax payers' money.
Addressing Prime Minister Gilani in his usual emotional style, Imran said: "Oh Gilani listen to me carefully...you visited UK and spent Rs7 million in purchasing clothes only, which we are going to challenge in Supreme Court".
The PTI chief overwhelmed by attendance of hundreds of thousands of people from Rawalpindi and other parts of the country, said in his usual mix of rhetoric and emotions that 'the cruel system, ruining the country is over with PTI's today rally as people proved they want change and get rid of the corrupt system.'
Khan said any attempt to weaken the judiciary will force the 'PTI tigers' to come on streets. His party [PTI] will always stand by the Supreme Court if anybody tried to harm it just to hide his corruption, he said.
The inflation, which has crushed the common man, he added, will be controlled if he was voted into power.
The PTI chief did not spare Nawaz Sharif even this time and accused him of not paying the tax despite his tall claims of changing the fortune of the country. Dubbing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief as prime minister of Raiwind, he accused him of paying only Rs5000 tax.
"He paid only Rs5000 tax and the only excuse with him (Nawaz Sharif] is that he was aboard...have you shifted the sugar mills abroad, this is state of affairs of our rulers, if they don't pay tax, it will be the poor man, which will crushed in shape of inflation," he added.
He claimed that his party would turn country into an investment-friendly state by inviting overseas Pakistanis. The expatriates are the greatest assets of this country, but the irony is that they are being asked for paying commission before any investment, he added.
"Corruption is the major problem, which needs to be eradicated [and] this is the only hurdle due to which overseas Pakistanis are hesitant to make investment in the country...I collected 7 crore for NAML University in one day from Pakistanis during my recent visit to UK and if they [expats] are provided a friendly environment, they will change the fate of this country," he added.
Imran claimed that the PML-N was no more enjoying the support of Punjabis. In the beginning, he added, the PTI's presence was only 3 percent, PMN-N 80 percent, now the PTI has witnessed a record jump of 33 percent and PML-N popularity had declined to 44 percent.
"This is a huge change and enough to know how popular PTI has become in Punjab within a short span of time...oh Mian sahib wake up from the deep slumber or the tsunami will wash away everything," Imran said smilingly while addressing the PML-N chief.
Imran also touched upon the possibility of rigging in upcoming general elections and said that a conspiracy is being hatched to rig the polls but even then his party [PTI] will emerge victorious.
The PTI chairman also mentioned the poor treatment being given to masses by public sectors hospitals. The party will provide best possible heath care to its people at par with Shaukat Khanum - a hospital of international standard run by him.
He regretted that Pakistan army is under attack both internally and externally. This is the army, which has rendered numerous sacrifices for its homeland whether it is terrorism or at borders - it has always fought from the front and we will never let anybody to weaken it, he maintained.
Earlier addressing the rally, PTI president Javed Hashmi called upon people to strengthen the hands of Imran Khan if they wanted to change the corrupt system, which has ruined the whole nation.
He accused his former boss Nawaz Sharif of helping President Asif Ali Zardari despite a warning from him that he was choosing a wrong path. "I advised Nawaz Sharif not to help Zardari but he did not listen to me," he added.
PTI Senior Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the rulers had divided the nation into two categories - one is enjoying luxurious life while the other is becoming poor. We need to change this class difference, he said, adding that it is only PTI, which will throw out the corrupt and ensure equal rights for all the citizens. He also announced to hold a grand public rally in Hyderabad on June 22.
