All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) and transporters protested here Monday outside the SNGPL head office against the increase in gas prices and gas loadshedding. They chanted slogans against the government and federal petroleum minister. They were holding placards against the SNGPL officials and the federal government.
According to the details, they gathered outside the SNGPL head office on Monday evening. They blocked the road for more than three hours. During the protest the angry protestors burnt a rickshaw. Earlier, Managing Director Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Arif Hameed, who was in Islamabad, came straight to the office and met the representatives of APCNGA and transporters.
On the request of Managing Director Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Arif Hameed, All Pakistan CNG Association has announced to put off its protest for 24-hour. Managing Director SNGPL Arif Hameed told reporters after meeting with the APCNGA representatives and transporters representatives at SNGPL head office on Monday, that we are facing gas shortage and they had conveyed the demands of APCNGA to the federal government. He also said that federal government is considering the demands of APCNGA. He further said that we are facing the gas shortage adding that we are also providing gas to the industry and power sector due to which we are facing the problem of demand and supply. He requested the CNG association to adopt the peaceful way of protest.
Senior Vice President APCNGA Captain Shuja Anwar (Retd) while talking to reporters said that they had postponed the protest on the request of MD SNGPL Arif Hameed and if their demands were not met by the government they would stage protest outside the President's and Prime Minister's house.
Shuja while rejecting massive increase in CNG prices has announced to launch countrywide protest against the increase. He said that their organisation would activate over 3.5 million CNG users to press the government for revisiting its decision regarding CNG price hike.
