President, All Pakistan CNG Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zone, Pervez Khan Khattak on Monday threatened that they would move to court if the government further increased Rs 15 per/kg of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) rates, Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club, he said that the government policy to increase CNG prices was unfair and would destroy the CNG sector.
"We will strongly oppose such policies, which are harmful to the CNG industry," he maintained. Flanked by the association officer bearers, Khattak said that the CNG consumption ratio was quite high as compared to petroleum products, because of which the government was gradually increasing prices to remove huge differences between petrol and CNG prices.
He said that the CNG sector was destroying with every passing day due to wrong policies of the incumbent government, which could not be acceptable at any cost. He accused that an organised group was involved in deteriorating the flourishing CNG sector in the country and gaining commission from petroleum firms. The association president dispelled the impression that the CNG sector was responsible for the growing shortage of natural gas in the country, adding that only 8 percent of the totally production of natural gas were using by CNG industry.
He further said that the government had exchanged delegations to sign agreements to import Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and LNG from other countries and to promote their personal businesses. He said that the government was also increasing development surcharge from 147 percent to 300 percent, while Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) also imposed unprecedented additional security, which was not acceptable to them.
