Polio campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: clerics urge parents to get kids vaccinated
Clerics have urged the parents to get immunize their children during upcoming three-day polio eradication campaign, which is started from Tuesday (today) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Speaking at a news conference here at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Maulana Jahanzeb, a member of National Research & Development Foundation (NRDF) said that they have addressed several refusal cases with support of clerics.
Accompanied by Field Co-ordinator, Peshawar Mian Shahab, and Dr Irfan, he said that there is no restriction on treatment of health in Islam. He said that polio vaccination have no negative impacts proved by a research conducted by religious doctors and physicians. After the research, he said that the Ulema of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had rejected the concerns about the vaccinations, which are not harmful for the children life. He said that the main factor behind the refusal of parents is unawareness about the significance of the polio vaccines. He urged Ulema of remote areas to deliver special sermon at Friday (Juma) Congregation and social gatherings.
Regarding the performance of NRDF and useful help of Ulema, he said that the awareness sessions held under the platform with support of eminent Ulema to highlight the significance of the polio vaccines and delivered special sermons by them in different parts of the province. He said that the most of polio cases have been surfaced in Fata and Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency.
Dr Irfan, while addressing on the occasion urged the parents to get their children polio drops to save from lifetime disability. He informed that the polio drive will be carried out from May 29 to 31. He said that the government with the help to donors agencies, is committed to complete eradicate polio and for this purpose efforts are being placed in the country in generally, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata in particularly.
