The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to confirm to the US authorities the nationality of all 32 Pakistanis detained in Bagram prison. The LHC was hearing a petition filed by Justice Project Pakistan seeking directions for repatriation of Pakistanis from Bagram prison.
The petitioner contended that there could be no real progress in the repatriation of the 32 detainees without owning them as Pakistani citizens. As the counsel for the ministry expressed reservations in conveying to the US authorities about their nationality, the court observed that it was a simple request and it should not be problematic to confirm their nationality. The court adjourned the hearing to May 30.
