The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has the skill and capability to overcome load shedding of electricity and gas within six months besides reviving national institutions like PIA, Steels Mills and OGDC within one year. This was stated by a team of JI leaders including JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch and Chairman, JI Standing Committee on Economics and former Member CBR, Sarfraz Ahmed Khan, while presenting budget proposals at a press conference here on Monday at Lahore Press Club.
Liaqat Baloch said there had been no increase in the GDP under the present government. Corruption and US dictation has done incalculable harm to the country's integrity, solidarity and ruined its economy. He said that with the nation's support and confidence, the Jamaat-i-Islami could make the country stand on its feet within one year.
In his budget proposals, JI Economic expert Sarfraz Ahmed Khan stressed on the abolition of the budget allocations for the MNAs and MPAs in the name of development and said the government should complete all development projects directly. He suggested ban on transfer of funds from one project to another or the other sector without Public Accounts Committee approval. He called for starting coal and water based electricity projects, total ban on foreign loans.
Sarfraz Ahmed Khan suggested abolition to the daily wages and contract systems and making all employees permanent. He further stressed that at least 80 percent of the income from electricity and gas should be spent on these departments. He said that the JI would bring down the tax rate to the lowest so as to increase the number of tax payers as would motivate the people to pay taxes voluntarily.
