The government has earmarked Rs 47,874 million for education affairs and services in the federal budget for 2012-13 against the revised allocation of Rs 39,513 million for the current year. An amount of Rs 15.8 billion has been earmarked in Public Sector Development Plan (PSDP) for Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the budget for 2012-13. In the year 2011-12, an amount of Rs 16.5 billion was allocated for HEC, which was reduced to Rs 14 billion due to financial crunch.
The education affairs and services has been provided with Rs 47,874 million in the budget 2012-13 as compared with Rs 39,513 million in the budget 2011-12. The government had revised estimates to Rs 45, 214 million for 2011-12. The major chunk of expenditure ie Rs 35 billion has been allocated for tertiary education affairs and services in 2012-13 against revised Rs 33.9 billion for 2011-12. This allocation is 74.5 percent of the total allocation for education affairs and services. Out of a total of Rs 47,874 million, Rs 4,670 million has been allocated for pre-primary education affairs services against the revised budget of Rs 4267 million for 2011-12.
Similarly Rs 5699 million has been allocated for secondary education affairs and services against Rs 5524 million revised for 2011-12. For the social welfare and special education division 2012-13 earmarked Rs 53 million against Rs 54 million in 2011-12. Rupees 679 million have been allocated for education affairs services against the revised allocation of Rs 533 million for 2011-12; Rs 963 million has been allocated for administration which was Rs 743 million in the revised budget of 2011-12 and Rs 135 million has been allocated for subsidiary services in 2012-13 against Rs 95 million of the revised estimates for 2011-12.
