The protestation against massive load-shedding of electricity was continued on second consecutive day, here on Saturday, while shutter down strike also observed at the call of Traders Alliance, resultantly business activities remained halted. Meanwhile, Police have registered five cases against more than 300 protestors and three persons are still in police custody for killing of a protesting youth.
In order to protest against the unscheduled 18-20 hours long load-shedding and ignorant attitude of the PPP government, the Tajir Ittehad of Faisalabad decided to observe a three-day strike from Friday. Faisalabad grain market, yarn and cloth markets were also remained closed.
According to details, the shutter down strike also continued on the second day around Clock Tower, and in industrial estates, where business centres and markets are closed while the traders protested by burning tyres on the roads. Thin traffic was observed on the roads while traders and shop owners staged a protest rally at Ghanta Ghar intersection.
Angry protesters chanted slogans against the government and burnt tyres while some protesters carrying sticks also forced the nearby shop owners to shut activities. The 18 to 22 hours long power outages have also affected the water supply to the several areas.
Addressing a protest rally, Anjuman-e-Tajran President Khuwaja Shahid Razzaq Sikka said the rulers had totally failed in providing relief to the masses. The urban areas of Faisalabad Division are facing at least 19 hours of power outages, while 18-22 hours load-shedding is taking place in rural areas. The misery of traders and citizens increases when power remains shut due to technical faults, adding to the overall dark hours. The demonstrators chanted slogans against the government.
