Two days international training workshop being arranged by the Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO), Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America, Pakistan Society of Food Scientists and Technologists, National Institute of Food Science and Technology on 'Halal Food Management' started on Monday.
While addressing the inaugural session of the workshop, Justice Khalilur Rehman said that the research on Halal food is very much needed globally so that Muslims could have food, which is free from Haram ingredients, which is the basic need of our religion. He further added that awareness regarding halal food is very much needed in the country. LCCI Standing Committee on Halal Meat Export Nasib Ahmed Saifi said that Pakistan has many opportunities for the export of Halal Meat but due to the direct export of livestock, halal meat exports are badly affected.
He said that due to export of livestock, 12 industries including leather and gelatine industry are badly affected. National Institute of Food Science and Technology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad Director General Dr Faqir Muhammad Anjum said that the arrangement of international training on Halal food is commendable as it would not only provide the valuable information to the food scientists regarding halal concepts but they would also get advantage from the international best practices. Halal Science Center-Thailand Director Winai Dahlan, Halal Research Council Chief Executive Officer Zubair Mughal and others spoke on this occasion.
