Pakistan on Monday added Sohail Tanvir to the One-day squad against Sri Lanka after the left-arm paceman excelled in the Twenty20 series draw, fast bowler Sohail Tanvir has been retained for the ODI squad and will replace the injured opening batsman Nasir Jamshed in the squad.
Sohail Tanvir showed impressive performance in the last two T20 in Hambantota, bowling economically and taking four wickets. He also picked up the Man-of-the-Series award. The 27-year-old fast bowler failed to make the original One-day squad but was included at the request of team managers.
Tanvir was declared man of the two-match Twenty20 series which Pakistan levelled on Sunday with a thumping 23-run win in Hambantota. Sri Lanka won the first match, also in Hambantota, on Friday by 37 runs. Chief selector Iqbal Qasim confirmed Tanvir's inclusion. "In view of the request from the team management and keeping in consideration the current form of Tanvir, the selection committee has decided that he may be retained for the One-day series in Sri Lanka," Qasim said in a Pakistan Cricket Board statement.
Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approved the replacement, a PCB spokesman said. He said Tanvir will fill the vacant slot in the ODI squad which was available after Nasir Jamshed was dropped out due to injury before the tour.
Tanvir, who was named only in the T20 squad for the current tour, last represented Pakistan in ODIs during the tour of Bangladesh in December 2011 where he played two matches but failed to pick up a wicket. He will miss at least the first two matches of this season's Friends Life T20 after signing up with English county Worcestershire. Tanvir has 55 wickets in 43 One-day games. Pakistan and Sri Lanka play the first of five One-day matches at Pallekele on Thursday. The one-days will be followed by three Tests.
