At least eight people including three political activists and a supporter of banned sectarian outfit were killed while many others injured in firing incidents in the metropolis here on Thursday, police said. A man was gunned down by unidentified armed persons in Liaquatabad Number 2 area in the limits of Super Market police station.
The deceased was identified as Muhammad Hanif, 45, s/o Nazar Muhammad, resident of Angara Goth. Police said that Hanif was killed when unidentified persons opened fire on him near Hanif Square, Liaquatabad. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
Police registered a case, 96/2012, under section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the unidentified attackers. An activist of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jammat was shot dead while two others injured, when an unknown assailant opened fire on them near Zeenat Square, Liaquatabad No 2 in the limits of Shareefabad police limits.
The deceased was identified as Shoaib, 45, while the injured were identified as Shahbaz, 40, and Zeeshan Ahmad, 25. The body and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment. Police said unknown gunmen intercepted the deceased and his associates and opened fire on them before fleeing. As a result Shoaib died on spot while Shahbaz and Zeeshan sustained injuries.
In another incident, a PPP worker was killed in Orangi Town No 14 in the jurisdiction of Pakistan Bazaar police station. Police said Abdul Bashir, 40, along with his friend Feroz Khan was on the way to somewhere when unknown armed men intercepted and opened fire on them. As a result Bahir died on spot while Feroz Khan was injured critically.
The deceased was an activist of PPP and resident of Orangi Town block 14-C. The body and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. A trader was shot dead while a policeman was injured by unidentified armed persons in Jama Cloth, Bolton market. The incident occurred behind New Memon Masjid in the remits of Kharadar police station.
SHO Kharadar Imtiaz Hussain said four men riding two motorcycles came and opened fire on the trader, Abdul Hamid, 40, son of Abdul Ghafoor. While fleeing, the accused also fired on head constable Muhammad Aslam who was deployed near the shop. In the meantime, two policemen reached on the spot and opened fire on the criminals but they managed to escape.
Later, traders staged protest demonstration against the killing and extortion incidents and blocked M. A. Jinnah Road. Traders also took to streets in Korangi area to register their protest against killing of the businessman. IG Sindh suspended DSP and SHO Kharadar over incident.
A worker of ANP, Adnan Khatak, 30, was killed in firing incident near Aisha Manzil in the limits of Azizabad police station. Police said that two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on Adnan and his friend Tahir, as a result both received severe injuries. The injured were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Adnan succumbed to his injuries. Police said that deceased was an activist of ANP, Qasba Colony ward.
Separately, a man was gunned down in Qasba Colony area in the limits of Peerabad police station. The deceased was identified as Imam Badshah, 50. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. The deceased was the resident of Kunwari Colony.
An MQM worker was gunned down in Baldia Town in the remits of Saeedabad police station. Police said that deceased was identified as Khuram, 28. He was the activist of MQM Unit 113. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Meanwhile, an alleged dacoit was killed in a police encounter at Anda More, North Karachi area.
As per details, two dacoits were looting a dairy shop when a patrolling police party of Sir Syed police station reached on the spot. The accused opened fire on the police party when it tried to arrest them. In retaliatory firing of police a dacoit was killed while the other managed to flee.
An official at the police station said police recovered a pistol, five bullets, snatched mobile and money from the possession of the alleged bandit. However, identity of the deceased could not be ascertained yet. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
