Deteriorating law and order situation: KCCI urges President, Prime Minister to intervene
President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Mian Abrar Ahmad while expressing deep concern over prevailing bad law and order situation in Karachi has demanded President of Pakistan, Prime Minister, Governor and Chief Minister Sindh, Director General Rangers and Inspector General Police Sindh to intervene to improve the situation.
He demanded concrete safety and security measures be taken to ensure safety and security to the business and industrial community of Karachi. He strongly condemned the recent waves of bloodshed and violence while criticising the failure of the government and law enforcing agencies to control the situation. He lamented that in the recent bloodshed in the markets of Karachi, particularly, in the old city area, Jodia Bazar, Cloth market and other markets on M. A. Jinnah Road, several precious lives of businessmen were lost.
The criminal activities viz. extortion (bhatta), kidnapping and killing for ransom, decoities etc in the markets and industrial areas are rampant causing widespread fear and harassment, he added. He voiced that the recent killings of businessmen has shaken the confidence of the business and industrial community.
He informed that everyday members of the business community and delegations from various markets of Karachi are approaching Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry complaining and protesting about life threats to them by the criminal elements and requesting to immediately contact the concerned quarters for their safety and security.-PR
