Punjab's finance minister will present the province's fifth consecutive budget on Saturday (today) at 4pm. Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal will chair the session. In the 38th session on Friday, opposition legislators created an uproar on deaths of new-born babies in a Lahore hospital because of an electric short circuit. Terming the incident a tragic affair, they called for launching a thorough probe.
A number of lawmakers also criticised power outages across the country, saying that they were hitting millions of children the hardest. During the question hour, Parliamentary Secretary Sardar Qaisar Abbas Magsi said that the privatisation board was empowered to sell government property in a transparent way by issuing local and international tenders.
He said that it was incorrect that government land was being sold in the Governor House, GOR or Lahore City. He said that the selection of software had been done for the whole of Punjab for digitising the revenue record. Magsi pointed out that at present, 245 patwaris were working in 211 circles in Lahore. He said that 22 patwaris had been dismissed from service in 2010. Later, Opposition Leader Raja Riaz was expected to give a briefing on forthcoming budget of Punjab. The House, which saw a walk-out by opposition after highlighting a lack of quorum, was adjourned till 4pm on Saturday.
