Mercury dipped by 14 degrees from 39C to 25 degree Celsius on Thursday evening after dust storm and light rain in Lahore and other surrounding cities breaking over a week's severe heat wave spell. The changed weather provided an immediate much needed relief to people who were also facing prolonged hours of electricity outages and consequently water scarcity.
Met office said that dust-thunderstorm/ light rain occurred at isolated places of Punjab, Peshawar, D.I.Khan, Quetta, Zhob, Kalat divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday whereas weather remained hot and dry in other parts of the country.
It recorded rain in mm at Rawalakot 21, Muzaffarabad 12, Lahore 11, Kakul 10, Murree 09, Islamabad A/P 06, Garhi Dupatta & Islamabad Gujranwala 04 (each), Mangla 3, Kakul, Khuzdar & Balakot 2 (each), Dir, Kotli, Jhelum & Chhor 1 (each), Kalam, Khanpur, Risalpur, Gilgit, Bahawalnaggar, Chakwal,& Bahawalpur city = Trace (each.
In its weather report Met office said that a westerly wave is affecting central and upper parts of the country and likely to persist for next 24 -36 hours. Seasonal low lies over Balochistan and adjoining areas with its trough extending south-east wards.
In its forecast for Friday Met office said dust-thunderstorm/ Light Rain is expected at isolated places of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Northeast Balochistan, upper Sindh, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. It further stated that dust - thunderstorm/ light rain is expected at isolated places of Upper Khyber Paktunkhwa, Upper Punjab, Northeast Balochistan, upper Sindh, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during next two days.
