Activists of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) FATA chapter on Tuesday staged a hunger strike camp against the growing corruption in development schemes, demanding for taking immediate notice of a large scale of embezzlement in developmental funds allocated for tribal region.
The protest camp was led by PML-N Fata, general secretary Ikramullah Jan, Saed Wali Wali Shah, Haji Faizullah and other leaders at Sher Shah Suri road near Peshawar Press Club. The protesters were hoisting banners and placards against rampant corruption, and anti-political administration slogans inside and in front of the protest camp. The activists termed Fata Secretariat a strong hold of corruption; and demanded of the government to take stern action against corrupt officers and political administration.
The demonstrators warned, if in case government failed to take steps against corruption and involved officers in FATA secretariat, then they will march to Islamabad to stage a sit-in in front of parliament. Terming the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) as a British era draconian law, they demanded of immediate repealing FCR and implementation of the laws framed for the rest of Pakistanis.
The PML-N Fata general secretary Ikramullah Jan, while talking to reporters at protest camp said that unfortunately the century-old anti-human law is still intact in FATA, the political administrators and their touts have become a 'white-collar dacoits' in the region.
He alleged that Laves and Khasadar forces are being deployed at different check posts in Fata for extortion on daily basis. Jan said that despite a huge some of funds in the Federal Budget for FATA, a single scheme hasn't been initiated for the welfare of the masses, adding that genuine work without giving bribes in Fata has become quite impossible. TESCO, Education and Health departments are on the top in the hierarchy made for corruption, he maintained.
The protesting activists demanded of the Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to take notice of the rampant corruptions of political administration and officers in Fata secretariat, otherwise warned that they would be compelled to hold a sit-in in front of parliament House.
