Taiwan stocks rose 0.2 percent on Wednesday, with HTC gaining on media reports that Chairman Cher Wang would continue to buy the company's shares in the market to show her confidence in the smartphone maker's outlook. The main TAIEX index climbed 16.75 points to 7,088.83, lifted by automobile and banks, which advanced 1.2 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively.
HTC rose 1.5 percent. The stock has plunged recently after the company cut its second-quarter revenue target amid growing competition from Apple and Samsung.
