More than 8,000 lawyers of Southern Punjab on Friday observed a complete strike, boycotting cort proceedings. All courts presented a deserted look. Lawyers organised rallies across cities and towns of southern Punjab to support the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the judiciary.
President of the local High Court Bar Association Mehmood Ashraf Khan criticised the Attorey General's misbehaviour in the court and said that the judiciary had enhanced its prestige by showing fairness, impartialty in Arsalan Iftikhar case.
Senior lawyer Qamaruz Zaman Butt said that nation should call for stern action against elements who wanted to malign the judiciary.
More than 3,000 lawyers of Multan, other than pro-PPP lawyers, expressed their solidarity with the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
In just over three years, the lawyers were back on the streets in support of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to foil another attempt to stifle and ridicule the judiciary, said A D Sajid Bhutta, the President of the District Bar Multan.
Scenes witnessed on last Thursday were repeated in the premises of the High Court Bar Association in Multan, and district bar associations of Multan, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Lodhran, Khanewal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur.
Through a resolution, the local bar assured its full support to the Supreme Court and announced a two-day boycott of local courts.
