Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday questioned the credibility of business tycoon Malik Riaz in the wake of his recent statements. PTI's Information Secretary Shafqat Mahmood said that Malik Riaz had raised numerous questions for the Chief Justice to answer and now it is time for him to answers some questions.
"Did Malik Riaz meet President Asif Zardari...before the press conference on June 12? Did he take instructions from (President) Zardari about what to say in the conference?
"He claimed to have given money to politicians, judiciary, journalists, military officials and bureaucrats. Why does he not disclose their names? "Whose messenger was he in 2009 during the restoration of the judiciary, when you had meetings with the Chief Justice? "And, why did he wait for three years to disclose details of the money his family allegedly spent on Arsalaan Iftikhar?"
Shafqat Mahmood said that none of Malik Riaz's assertion could be considered credible "until he answers these questions. We are awaiting his response".
Meanwhile, according to a PTI's spokesperson, a meeting was held between senior PTI members and Eric Schmidt, the Executive Chairman of Google, on his first visit to Pakistan.
PTI's Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureishi, Secretary General Dr Arif Alvi and Information Secretary Shafqat Mehmood attended the meeting. Salman Danish and Dr Awab Alvi also attended the meeting.
The issues discussed were the prospects of using electronic and social media platforms in Pakistan. The meeting also discussed technological help needed in conducting free and fair elections in Pakistan and how to improve the use of digital technology to empower the people of Pakistan.
