Measures should be taken for quickly overcoming the power crisis in the country, Muhammad Rafiq, an MPA of the Punjab Assembly, said during the budget session on Friday. He pointed out that although the Kalabagh dam's feasibility had been prepared in 1952, the vital project had been shelved after severe criticism and the adoption of resolutions against it in a number of provincial assemblies.
The lawmaker said that the construction of Kalabagh dam appeared to be in the national interest in the wake of intensifying energy crisis. Another lawmaker, Sajida Mir, pointed out that the federal government had taken steps to reduce gasoline prices so the provincial government should endeavour to reduce prices of food items in Punjab.
Another opposition legislator said that the provincial cadres of the ruling party were inciting agitation against the federation. Meanwhile, the provincial law minister told journalists that politicians, journalists and lawyers should "do self accountability".
Criticising the federl government and accusing it of massive corruption, the minister pointed said that the conspiracy to malign the judiciary was bound to fail. He said that his party realised that an independent judiciary was vital for the country's stability and it would fully support the superior judiciary against any eventually.
During the session, the ruling party's lawmaker countered the cfriticism of PML-Q legislators by levelling allegations against the previous provincial government, turning the session chaotic. The House was later adjourned by the Chair till 3pm on Monday.
