Water supply to three urban talkas of Hyderabad resumed after Wasa's power connections were restored on Friday, the Divisional Commissioner, Ahmed Bux Narejo, said on Friday. The electricity, he said, had been restored on the orders of Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and the provincial Chief Secretary.
Talking to reporters here, Narejo said that the government had intervened after taking a serious notice of the situation.
Expressing the hope for resolving the matter in an amicable manner, he said that a permanent solution should be found so that citizens might not again suffer.
Hesco authorities had disconnected power connections to major Wasa installations such as its Jamshoro Road, Hala Naka and Pretabad Filter Plants on June 14 because of "huge outstanding dues".
The disconnection resulted in suspension of water supply to a vast area in the city for at least 24 hours.
The Managing Director of Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), HAD, Hyderabad, wrote a letter to the Secretary of Local Government, asking him to take notice of the power supply disconnection. He requested the authorities for settling the issue on a permanent basis to avoid any untoward situation.
He also wrote that HAD's joint action committee had threatened to go on strike if Wasa employees' salary, which had not been paid for the past five months, was not paid till Friday (June 15).
