US wheat futures were higher at the close of pit trade on Thursday on a rare sale of US soft red winter wheat to China and in sympathy with gains in corn. USDA on Thursday said US exporters sold China 110,000 tonnes of soft red winter wheat (SRW), the largest sale of SRW to China in 8-1/2 years.
USDA's weekly export sales report showed net export sales of US wheat last week at a net 432,900 tonnes, above estimates for 250,000 to 350,000 tonnes and a three-week high. The net sales of wheat were the largest in three weeks.
Wheat prices in western Europe were little changed on Thursday as support from rising US grains was curbed by economic concerns as investors braced themselves for Sunday's election in debt-stricken euro zone member Greece.
