Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that education is only means to salvage the nation from poverty, deprivations and darkness. He said that menace of terrorism could also be countered through education, as knowledge is more powerful than bullet. Keeping in view the importance of education, he said, the Punjab government is attaching top priority to the promotion of education in the province and has taken revolutionary measures for this purpose.
He was talking to prominent singer Shahzad Roy at his tent office Minar-e-Pakistan, here Tuesday. Special Assistant Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Secretaries Higher Education, Schools, Information, Excise, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board, Vice Chairman Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, Mehnaz Aziz of Children Global Network and Sameen Shahid of Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Foundation were also present on the occasion. Shahzad Roy informed about private TV channel's programme 'Zara Sochiyea', 'Mein aur Wasu' and the future show while executive producer of the private TV channel Suleman informed about the educational campaign of his institution.
Appreciating the educational project of the institution, the Chief Minister assured that all out co-operation would be extended to the project. He said that the negative customs and traditions found in the society were also a result of ignorance and illiteracy. He said that though no criticism was made against Atchison, Grammar and Cadet College for the rich but Daanish schools for the provision of quality education to the children of the poor are criticised. He said that Daanish schools have been established in backward areas to bridge the gulf between the rich and the poor.
He said that distribution of laptops among brilliant students is an important step towards establishment of E-society. He said that 1,25000 more laptops would be given to the students next year. Shahzad Roy and members of private TV channel appreciated the steps taken by Punjab government for the uplift of education sector.
