The Supreme Court's short order has not only disqualified Yousuf Raza Gilani as Prime Minister but also deprived him of being the longest serving Prime Minister of Pakistan. Late Prime Minister of Pakistan Liaquat Ali Khan remains the longest serving elected Prime Minister. Liaquat Ali Khan served the country between August 15, 1947 and October 16, 1951, still retaining a 36-day over Gilani who held the office between March 25, 2008 and April 26, 2012.
Recently the ruling Pakistan People's Party launched a massive media campaign titled 'People's Government Makes History'. Comparing the longevity of the tenure of former Prime Minister Gilani and late Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan, the Gilani government claimed that he was the longest serving elected Prime Minister.
