Opposition in the National Assembly on Friday made a demand for an early, fair, free and transparent election in the country. In his speech in the National Assembly Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi said that the newly-elected leader of the House had been responsible for the on-going energy crisis which led to economic downturn and a closure of industry.
According to him, the victory of Raja Pervez Ashraf was nothing but darkness and disappointment for the country. The people of the country were facing worst loadshedding because of his role that he played for three years as Minister for Water and Power after 2008 election.
Mehtab said the people were optimistic that 2008 would bring real democracy in the country but the reality was that Pakistan People's Party and its coalition partners had unimaginable punishment to the country and its people. He said that the newly-elected leader of the House had talked about forging national unity in his speech but the fact was that his nomination and victory as Prime Minister of the country has further harmed the national unity.
He said PPP ministers had been appearing before the Supreme Court because of ruling coalition's corruption and plunder. Mehtab said Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had embarked on the course of confrontation with institutions with a view to protecting the "plundered wealth" of President Asif Ali Zardari. He said the government had put on stake the future of people to protect 60 million dollars of President Asif Ali Zardari.
He also criticised the government for targeted killings in Karachi, disappearance of people in Balochistan and elsewhere in the country. He said the government had also taken the course of confrontation with the Supreme Court whose intervention in the Rental Power Plants (RPPs) and NICL scams resulted in the recovery of billion of rupees.
