A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court at its Lahore Registry, seeking the court to direct the newly-elected Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to write a letter to Swiss authorities for reopening graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. The petition was filed by a bar member, Shahid Naseem Gondal, through a senior counsel AK Dogar.
He said that the SC in its NRO judgement in 2010 had clearly directed the federal government to take immediate steps to revive the cases in Switzerland. He said that the former prime minister faced disqualification for flouting the apex court's judgement. The incumbent, he said, should be directed to take immediate steps in this regard. He requested to the court to direct the new prime minister to write a letter to Swiss authorities immediately in compliance with the court's order.
Meanwhile, Moulvi Iqbal Haider has filed a petition before the Sindh High Court with regard to directing the new prime minister for writing letter to Swiss Authorities, for reopening of graft cases against President Zardari, a private TV channel reported.
Moulvi Iqbal Haider has prayed before the court that newly-elected Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf may be directed to write letter to Swiss authorities for re-opening of graft cases against the incumbent President Asif Zardari in the light of the Supreme Court judgement. Haider has further prayed that if the new prime minister doesn't write letter, it should be taken as contempt of SC orders.
