Social Media expert Asad Malik on Saturday urged Pakistani youth to celebrate upcoming 'Social Media Day' falling on June 30 this year with zeal in recognition of the digital revolution. In a statement, Asad said that social media usage in Asia had hit through the roof in the recent past, showing growth of over 100 percent.
More than half of the region's population was actively online on Facebook (the most popular social network in the country). Besides the Asia-Pacific, the growth of social media usage is phenomenal in South Asia as well which houses a population of more than a billion.
He said that the upcoming worldwide Social Media Day was the third annual day after its official launch in 2010. This Day is celebrated every year to acknowledge the fact that it is not just about the digital platforms, but also about how the people utilise them, irrespective of their caste, creed and cultural backgrounds.
Asad said that social media platforms were helping businesses in converting their connections into valuable customers. He also said that using Facebook to market brands and businesses was a great way of diverting traffic towards websites, creating relationships with customers.
Creating a Facebook Page is easy, but acquiring "Likes", comments and feedback is not an easy task! You cannot build and wait for fans to come. You have to seek out your clients, or rather help them find you and connect with them, he added. Similarly, he said, Twitter "is a powerful social networking site, which has helped brands go viral".
He said that the LinkedIn is more than just accepting a connection request; it is about networking with professionals. Asad Malik has urged the government to raise awareness among public on effective usage of social media. He also discussed ways and means to make social media beneficial for Pakistan's economy. He said, he is ready to help out the government in connecting the youth to the fast-changing digital world around Pakistan.
