At least three persons including an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were gunned down while eight others wounded in separate incidents at various parts of the metropolis here on Saturday. According to police and rescue sources, a man and his nephew, who were abducted on Friday, were found dead near Timber Market in the limits of Napier police station.
Police said two brothers namely Zahid, 30, son of Taj Mohammad and Siraj and their nephew Sunny, 21, son of Malik were kidnapped on Friday. They said the bodies of Zahid and Sunny were found near Timber Market and near ICI Bridge, respectively while Siraj is still missing. They said the deceased persons, who hailed from Haripur, Hazara and labourers by profession, were residing in Usmanabad.
SHO Baghdadi Ghulam Nabi Afridi said the mother of Zahid in her statement revealed that the culprits had first kidnapped Zahid and then they made a call from his cell phone to his younger brother Siraj, informing him that Zahid faced an accident. The culprits had also demanded Rs 60, 000 for commencing his medical treatment.
Reacting to the call, she along with Siraj and Sunny rushed to the mentioned place located in Old Golimar area where some five unknown armed men snatched Rs 60,000 cash and kidnapped her son and grandson. He further said the abductors after applying severe torture killed Zahid and Sunny and threw their bodies at the aforesaid places and added that although the motive behind the killings was yet to be ascertained, the initial reports suggested that the Lyari gangsters were involved in this dual-murder case.
He said the Lyari gangsters took revenge from the family as one of the mobster namely Haris Niazi was killed in Khadda market area on the information of one of the deceased persons. A case was registered against unidentified persons on the complaint of Zahid's mother. An activist of the MQM namely Adil, 30, son of Waziruddin was shot dead near Korangi Indus Hospital in the precincts of Zaman Town police station.
Police said the deceased, who has recently changed his political affiliation from the Sunni Tehreek to the MQM, was targeted by two armed riders when he was on the way to somewhere on his bike. Resultantly, he received fatal bullet wounds and died on spot. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy.
Similarly, eight other persons sustained bullet wounds in separate firing incidents at various parts of the metropolis. A woman Moazima, 55, wife of Imam Buksh, sustained injuries in Gizri police station remits while two men namely Kamran and Qureshi got injured in the limits of New Karachi Industrial Area. Another man namely Haseeb Shafiq, 19, was injured in Jamsheed Quarters police remits, Kashif, 22 in Shah Latif area, two Muzaffar Hussain, 23 and Shakeel Ashraf, 25 in Sher Shah and one Manzoor Atif in Orangi Town.
