The Karachi Port handled 71,595 tonnes of cargo comprising 48,249 tonnes of import cargo and 23,346 tonnes of export cargo including 4,286 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 48,249 tonnes comprised of 36,592 tonnes of containerised cargo and 11,657 tonnes of general cargo.
The total export cargo of 23,346 tonnes comprised of 17,589 tonnes of containerised cargo; 568 tonnes of cement; 4,832 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 357 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 4,286 containers comprising 2,498 containers import and 1,788 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 1,006 of 20's and 743 of 40's of loaded while nil of 20's and 3 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 457 of 20's and 356 of 40's loaded containers while and 141 of 20's 242 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Five ships namely APL Sharjah, Jolly, UASC Shuwaikh, Abtin-1 and Oriental Lotus with four container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels viz Abtin-1, Leo Perdana, Hyundai Confidence, UBC Cyprus and Idship Bulker with three container ships and two bulk cargo ships respectively are currently at the berths.
A container ship namely Kota Azam sailed out to sea on Monday, while two ships namely Leo Perdana and Hyundai Confidence with two container ships are expected to sail on Tuesday. Two vessels viz STX Patraikos and Seafarer with one container ship and one sulphur carrier respectively due to arrive on Monday, while five vessels viz Alam Bakti, MT Lahore, Shandong Hai Tong, Ocean Felicity and Arsel Star with one mogas ship, one crude oil tanker, one coal carrier, one iron powder and one steel coils respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
The total import cargo of 36,790 tonnes includes 11,068 tonnes of edible oil; 123 tonnes of general cargo and 25,599 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 19,720 tonnes includes 2,311 tonnes of cement and 17,409 tonnes of containerised cargo.
Two ships namely CV Maersk Kentucky and MT Chem Road Vega with containers and edible oil sailed out to sea on Monday. A total number of six vessels viz CV Maersk Kentucky, MSC Ayala, Rainbow Fairy, MV BBC Kosan, Ginga Eagle, and MT Chem Road Vega are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, rice, general cargo and edible oil respectively during last 24 hours. As many as five ships Brizo, Akaki, Argent Daisy, Chem Road Rose and Salta with furnace oil, edible oil and cement respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. No ships are expected to take berths at Port Qasim.
