Concerted efforts are needed to enhance the export and value addition of rice in the international markets which shall enable this sector to add valuable contribution to our economy. In order to tap the huge potential for the export of Pakistani rice in the international markets, we need to ensure better quality management of rice and proper utilisation of its by-products.
Experts and exporters of rice opined this while addressing a workshop arranged by Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) at a local hotel here on Thursday. In his opening remarks, Director TDAP, Lahore, Shahzad Hussain Rana highlighted the endeavours of TDAP for the facilitation of rice exporters. Officials from Rice Research Institute shed light on rice exportable varieties and quality management of rice.
Shahid Abdullah from Plant Protection Department talked about quarantine issues and certification of rice while Javed Islam Agha of Reem Rice Mills discussed governments intervention for increasing exports of rice. During the panel discussion, the participants expressed their views regarding various problems which they confront during their rice export consignments.
