Pakistan's Ambassador to Germany, Abdul Basit has said that Pakistan was a direct victim of the protracted conflict in Afghanistan, as people of Pakistan had been suffering for the last over 30-year but they are facing the challenges with courage. He said this while addressing the students at the German School of Journalism, Munich University, says a press release issued on Friday.
Basit said that despite the enormous challenges many positive developments like restoration of democracy, growth of media and emergence of vibrant civil society had taken place and that there was a need to support and strengthen these positive developments.
He said that all the efforts being made by Pakistan to bring peace and stability in the region. He emphasised that political reconciliation efforts out of sync with ground realities were bound to fizzle out, adding the time had come to dispense with skewed and self-serving solutions and work for a genuine reconciliation in a sustained manner.
Referring to Pak-India relations, Basit said, we were trying to move from conflict management to conflict resolution. Settlement of conflicts and disputes especially the Jammu and Kashmir would open up new vistas of regional co-operation.
The Ambassador said that there was no need to worry as Pakistan had put in place a strong multi-layered command and control system and concerns in this regard if any were driven real politic considerations. Earlier, the Ambassador held a meeting with the Chief Executive and Principal of the School, Joerg Sadrozinski and discussed possibilities of co-operation in the field of Journalism.-PR
