Governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barrister Masood Kausar while appreciating the contribution of Cancer Patients Welfare Society engaged in supplementing the treatment facilities under the aegis of IRNUM Peshawar has stressed the need of more effective role of the society for making the efforts fully result oriented.
Talking to a delegation of the society which called on him under the leadership of its President, Ghulam Sarwar Khan Momand at Governor's House, Peshawar on Friday, the Governor further stated that there is a need to promote awareness amongst the masses about the causes of the fatal disease as well.
The Director, IRNUM, Dr Mohammad Rauf Khattak and the other office bearers of the society, Malik Khan Marjan, Dr Naseem Begum and Saeed Shah were also present. While noting the point that fully equipped and modernized treatment facilities at the hospital require about Rs 600 millions, including Rs 190 million for infrastructure development, the Governor hinted to take every possible step for making this possible. Talking on various points, the Governor said, keeping in view the highly sophisticated and costly state of treatment facilities of the fatal disease, there is also the need to contribute more efficiently and generously in reaching to the ailing humanity for making their proper treatment possible.
Appreciating the academic and research facilities being offered to the students of Khyber Medical College and Postgraduate Medical Institute of Peshawar at IRNUM, the Governor desired that involvement of students in ensuring effective precautionary measures could also prove more effective step towards ensuring better outcome of the welfare services.
At the same time, the Governor said, there is also need for ensuring provision of latest diagnostic facilities to counter the disease effectively and making the benefits trickled down to the common people. Meanwhile, the Governor was informed that annually average more than fifty thousand patients are offered treatment facilities including five thousands fresh cases in the IRNUM Peshawar which is working since mid seventies.
