The Supreme Court on Friday sought a detailed report from the Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) pertaining to the progress in the Hajj corruption case after the transfer of Hussain Asghar - the lead investigation officer.
A three-member bench of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the hajj corruption case, particularly repatriation of Hussain Asghar to FIA from Gilgit-Baltistan. Asghar was investigating the scam when he was posted as Inspector-General of Police in Gilgit-Baltistan.
During the hearing, a joint secretary of the Establishment Division told the bench that Hussain Asghar had been informed about the court orders and that an inquiry would be held against him if he does not follow orders, adding that apparently, he had violated court orders.
He further said that a summary regarding departmental action against Hussain Asghar had been forwarded to the Prime Minister on June 27. The prime minister was also requested that an officer be appointed for this purpose so that the inquiry could be initiated against Asghar for not complying with orders. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that Hussain Asghar's absence was affecting the case, adding that he was creating problems for himself by not complying with court orders.
"It is also not better for you if a subordinate officer is not obeying your orders...the whole structure would be disturbed by such a precedent," the Chief Justice said while addressing the joint secretary of the Establishment Division. The bench later adjourned the hearing till July 3.
