Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Saturday said that all the political parties including Pakistan Peoples Party wanted free, fair and transparent elections and for this, all out efforts would be made to achieve the objectives. Talking to a private television channel he said that appointment of the chief election commissioner (CEC) would be held after consensus of the parties concerned.
He said Pakistan Peoples Party and Opposition had provided the names for the CEC and after the consensus this matter would be finalised to conduct free, fair and transparent elections. He said leadership takes the decision and the party workers follow it.
Replying to a question, the minister said that action would be taken against the responsible persons for not giving proper attention to the coverage of a programme held in Lahore, where former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani spoke. Replying to another question Kaira said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had fully relied on the abilities of Raja Pervez Ashraf. He said that Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had served on different important positions because Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had confidence in him.
