A joint working group was formed to workout education issues in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here on Saturday. The Peshawar Press Club in collaboration with Institute of Social and Policy Sciences (I-SAP) formally created the group. The decision was taken in consultative meeting with representatives of the both organisations, including President Saiful Islam Saifi from Peshawar Press Club and Hamid Masood from I-SAP.
Speaking on the occasion, Hamid Masood said that his organisation had mainly focused to work on education financing, impediments in the sector and conduct research on the relevant issues. He said that it was encouraging sign to not cut education budget despite constant acts of terrorism and the prevailing unrest situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He added the education budget had been doubled for next financial year, which was reflected a serious move on part of provincial government to promote education.
Masood said that the additional funds had utilised for promotion of education against the budgetary allocation for the sector during the current fiscal year. He said the Punjab government had spent billions for procurement of laptops without reflecting funds in the budget. He said I-SAP in support with Peshawar Press Club would jointly workout to provide information and share data with journalists regarding education and advocacy services for them.
