At least five persons including two activists of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and a police constable were killed in separate incidents in the metropolis here on Tuesday. According to police and rescue sources, unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on a police constable, Gulzar Ali Alvi, 45, son of Shabir Alvi, near his home in Petal Wali Gali.
At the time of incident, he was going to perform his duty at Hassan Square police station. Resultantly, he received fatal bullet wounds and died on spot. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. The deceased was father of five. DSP Shahid Abbas said that the initial investigation suggests that the deceased killed over ongoing wave of target killings of police personnel and officers in the city. A case was registered against unidentified shooters on the complaint of his family member.
An activist of PPP and a baker lost their lives in a drive-by shooting in the limits of Pakistan Bazar police station. SHO Imtiaz Jutt said the incident took place in sector 14, Disco Mor near Bhashani Bakery where unidentified armed riders sprayed Shahid Amjad alias Shaheen Bihari, 35, son of Amjad Miyan, with bullets near his residence. Resultantly, he received multiple bullets and died on spot. Meanwhile, a baker of Bhashani Bakery, Muhammad Haroon, son of Muhammad Hakeem, also received bullet wounds. The body and the injured person were moved to ASH where Haroon succumbed to his injuries during treatment. SHO Imtiaz said the victim Shahid was active worker of PPP. No case was registered till filing of this report. Following the said killing, tension prevailed in the locality where miscreants took to streets and restored to heavy aerial firing that caused suspension of all commercial and social activities in the area. Later, heavy contingent of police and rangers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Another PPP activist was gunned down in Khamasa colony in the limits of Mochko police station. Police said the victim, Saleem Awan, son of Haroon, was targeted by two unknown armed riders when he was on the way to work from home. Resultantly, he was hit by three bullets and died on spot. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for legal formalities and later handed over to his family.
Police said the deceased, who was running towel factory in Metroville area, was an activist of PPP. No case was registered till filing of this report. A 65-year-old man, Noor Ali, son of Karam Khan, was shot dead by unknown armed riders in SITE area. The body was shifted to ASH for autopsy and later handed over to the heirs. Police said he was watchman in SITE area and hailed from Kohat. They said he might have been murdered over personal enmity. No case was registered till filing of this report.
