Artistes paid tribute to Punjabi folk singer Muhammad Alam Lohar, father of famous singer Arif Lohar, on his 33rd death anniversary here on Tuesday Special prayers and Quran Khawani were offered for the folk singer who died on July 3, 1979, in an accident. He was born in village Aach Goach in Gujrat district into a blacksmiths family.
Alam Lohar recorded his first album at the age of 13 and outsold all other singers in Pakistan in the 1970s. He developed a new style of singing the Punjabi Vaar, an epic or folk tale. He was famous for his rendition of Waris Shah's Heer which he had memorised in 36 styles and forms.
