The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Inter Provincial Co-ordination (IPC) on Tuesday directed the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) to give reasons for year-long delay in starting work on supplying gas to Balawalnagar. The Committee met with Mir Ahmedan Khan Bugti in the chair at Parliament House on Tuesday.
The Committee discussed the status of implementation on the recommendations of previous standing committee meetings by OGDCL, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and SSGPL. MD OGDCL informed the Committee that as per recommendations of the Committee recruitment procedure, rules and policy is being implemented in a transparent manner.
The Committee was also informed that OGDCL had given scholarship to 54 students this year. The Committee directed that the scholarships should be given to the deserving students and merit should be observed in this regard. It was also informed that the work of establishing child and mother care center at Dera Bugti was under process. The funds for establishing a hospital at Dera Bugti had been allocated in the budget for 2012-13 and after the approval of PC-1, work on the project would begin and it would be handed over to the government of Balochistan.
The Committee also directed the OGDCL to submit a report, citing reasons for the delay in the installation of gas pipeline network in Bahawalnagar city. The Additional Secretary Ministry of Petroleum informed the Committee that the Secretary Mines had called a meeting on August 7 this year in Quetta to resolve the issue of absorption of 216 casual labourers. The Committee urged the authorities concerned to resolve the matter on priority basis. The Committee also directed the Secretary Petroleum to provide details of Sindh workers in OGDCL and the PPL.
