Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik is holding a key meeting with contractors supplying oil and other cargoes to Nato forces in Afghanistan here on Thursday to draw future line of action for security of fuel and cargo supplies to Afghanistan, sources said on Wednesday.
Besides Malik, officials of all four provincial governments and Nato oil contractors will attend the meeting to discuss the emerging situation after the government agreed to allow the supplies across the borders, they said. Contractors and representatives of oil tankers owners associations have already discussed their issues at a closed-door meeting on Wednesday evening. They are expected to raise a number of issues with Rehman Malik particularly the security concerns, they said.
There are several technical and security problems which have occurred after the Nato supplies came to a halt for an indefinite period following the western forces struck Pakistan Army's check-posts near Afghanistan border some seven months back. Sources said Malik is likely to brief the contractors about the security, customs and other technical matters during the meeting. They said the customs documents for supplying goods and fuel to Afghanistan have already expired, which need renewal and contractor will press Malik to speed up the process. The contractors are likely to demand for army escort for the fuel and cargo convoys' protection, they said.
