KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday refused to hear a petition filed by the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) employees pertaining to their retrenchment following the government's decision to privatise the State-Owned Enterprise (SOE).
The head of bench of SHC Justice Omar Sial supported the attorney general for Pakistan's statement during the course of hearing of the petition that the SHC could not hear the case as it is sub judice in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
PSM employees' lawyer contended that the case in the apex court is related to the promotion of employees, not the privatisation issue.
Justice Omar said that PSM employees can move the apex court against the decision of SHC. Representatives of employees, present in the courtroom pleaded that it is a matter of more than 9,000 employees of PSM. The SHC judge cautioned the lawyer and his clients that it was not their union office but a courtroom and if they do not maintain the decorum, they will be sent to jail. "What you people have done to the steel mills, everyone knows about it," said Justice Sial in his remarks.
