KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 199,013 tonnes of cargo comprising 115,330 tonnes of import cargo and 83,683 tonnes of export cargo including 7,980 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargos of 115,330 tonnes comprised of 53,666 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,145 tonnes of general cargo; 15,349 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 40,170 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 83,683 tonnes comprised of 35,154 tonnes of containerised cargo; 47,129 tonnes of bulk cargo and 1,400 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 7,980 containers comprising of 3,901 containers of import and 4,079 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,047 of 20's and 1,344 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 83 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 966 of 20's and 1,070 of 40's loaded containers while 89 of 20's and 442 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Folegandros, Coral Star, Southamton Express, Liana and Pola Agusta carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were three vessels carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 69,013 tonnes comprising of 68,975 tonnes of import cargo and 38 tonnes of export cargo including 987 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 68,975 tonnes includes 22,797 tonnes of coal; 8,673 tonnes of gasoline; 6,000 tonnes of palm oil; 6,960 tonnes of soyabean; 3,200 tonnes of chemical; 782 tonnes of LPG; 1,848 tonnes of project cargo and 18,715 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 38 tonnes includes 38 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 987 containers comprising of 985 containers import and 2 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There were three ships namely Maersk Detroit, Symil and Navig8 Tanzanite carrying containers and palm oil sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely Hong Fa Shanghai and Sea Brayer carrying general cartgo and coal respectively is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eight ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, general cargo, coal, soyabean, chemical, LPG, gasoline and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as ten vessels viz. Express Athens, Rowan-II, Dona Bibi, Mytro, Kamila Kosan, Bubyan, Ploutos, Torm Asfrid, Shalamar and Asia Inspire carrying containers, coal, soyabean, chemical, gas oil, gasoline, diesel oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were four ships viz. Express Athens, Maersk Brooklyn, Proud Unity and Asia Inspire carrying containers, coal and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There were two ships namely Maersk Brooklyn and Proud Unity carrying containers and coal respectively due to arrive on Thursday while three more ships namely CMA CGM Butterfly, Diyala and Safmarine Nyassa carrying containers respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
