ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday presented a total of Rs14.73 trillion charged expenditure included in demands for grants and appropriations for the financial year ending on June 30, 2021 in the National Assembly for discussion.
According to detail, a total of Rs 10.1 trillion is repayment of domestic debt, Rs 2.631 trillion servicing of domestic debt, Rs 1.229 trillion foreign loans repayment, Rs 315.14 billion servicing of foreign debt, Rs 183.691 billion repayment of short-term foreign credits, and Rs 229.74 billion external development loans and advances by the federal government.
Similarly, a total of demands and appropriation of grants-in-aid and miscellaneous adjustments between the federal and provincial governments is Rs 19 billion, Rs 3.716 billion of superannuation allowances and pensions, Rs 20 million of Pakistan Post Office Department, Rs 46.75 million of other expenditure of Foreign Affairs Division, Rs 202.33 million other expenditure of Law and Justice Division, Rs 2.242 billion of National Assembly, Rs 2.035 billion of Senate, Rs 800 million of Pakistan Railway and Rs 395 million of staff, household and allowances of the president (personal).
The federal government also present Rs 183.69 billion of repayment of short term foreign credit, Rs 5.2 billion for audit, Rs 2.408 billion of Supreme Court, Rs 699.6 million for Islamabad High Court, Rs 3.148 billion for election, Rs 72.822 million for federal Ombudsman Secretariat for protection against harassment of women at work place, Rs 793.787 million for Wafaqi Mohtasib, and Rs 264.81 million for Federal Tax Ombudsman.
While discussing the charge expenditure, the opposition members raised many questions on the performance of the government departments.
They said that the PTI government failed to perform and to improve growth rate.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Shazia Marri said that the government fixed the target of 1.9 percent of GDP but it failed and the growth rate is -0.4 percent. She said that all the expenditures of the government are being paid by the taxpayers.
Khalid Ranjha said that there is need of audit of the government departments to check their performance. He said that audit report should be presented in the Council of Common Interest (CCI) for discussion. He said that Parliament should make accountability of the departments. He said that it only President of Pakistan which promulgated seven ordinances in one day.
Abdul Qadir Patel of PPP criticized the federal government and raised many questions on the performance of the Election Commission of Pakistan. He also raised the questions on the performance of other departments including Pakistan Railway.
Aisha Ghaus Pasha of PML-N said that Parliament could not vote 77 % expenditures. She said most of expenditures spend on the debt servicing. She said that debt servicing burden has been increased due to wrong policies of the government.
